I'm Heather. I am a proud veteran & single working mama from Appalachia (the mountains of East Tennessee to be a little more specific). My boyfriend, feisty daughter, and I along with our 2 German Shepherds Xena (yes like the 90’s warrior princess) & Luna currently call Nashville our home.
I am starting this blog as I wrap up my first real estate investment. I have done a lot of reflection since signing the final closing documents and I am starting this blog as a way to not only capture my journey, but to share tactical advice about what I have learned from my first project in hopes of helping others who are just getting started as I continue my journey. .
Since you are here... Hang on to your hat, and don't stand up while you are along for this wild ride. Being from Appalachia means that colloquialisms and stories are part of my heritage and they have a tendency to pop out unexpectedly even though I am an educated professional.
If you sign up for my mailing list I can guarantee that our journey will be entertaining, full of real experiences, and I'll share with you what I'm learning along the way. Plus, I can also guarantee you that I absolutely will NOT be spamming you or selling your info to the highest bidder (or the lowest one) because # 1 I don’t have time, I'm a single mama remember, and # 2 well that’s just rude.
As far as credentials go I am a lifelong learner who enjoys traveling the world and trying A LOT of new things, but my original love is business and using my knowledge as an entrepreneur and finance professional to grow businesses and solve everyday problems.
I am just finishing up my first deal as a real estate investor and flipper, and I have 13 years of experience as a finance professional with experience in Big 4 Accounting Firms and Fortune 500 Companies. ** Enter Disclaimer - None of the views or experiences in this site are a reflection of any previous or current employers. ** Now that that's out of the way... I have a bachelor’s degree in Business with a minor in Finance, an MBA with a concentration in Leadership, and a Master of Science in Accounting.
So in short I am a new real estate investor who has been going to school for an eternity growing my love for business and accounting, and while I have never even seen the Tiger King (or pretty much anything else since about 2009), but I’m still pretty sure Carole Baskin did it.
I chose the name Wild Magnolia for my real estate investment company to honor my Southern Appalachian heritage, in particular my Granny Kitty who is one of the greatest influences in my life, and as a reminder of the grace and charm I try to operate with daily.
My grandmother, along with my mama, has taught me everything I know about Southern grace and living. Being both Southern and Appalachian she is the type of lady that could easily charm the pants off a snake yet quietly work harder than most men I know.
These ladies love their family fiercely, and would go to the ends of the earth for them. They have showed me how to have fun even though we often had to work hard, and to never to complain. They showed me how to take pride in a job well done whether it be a well-made bed, a weed less garden or helping a neighbor with chore that needs to be done. They taught me that you keep your word no matter what, and to treat others with respect and kindness even if they don't always deserve it.
These ladies an inspiration and what I strive for every day.
As for the wild part... Well hang around for a little while and I am sure that you will figure that out for yourself.
